It's the initial push.
A body will remain at rest (or in motion) until acted upon by an outside force...say 70 plus students, a couple of committees, mid-tenure review, and nudges from IM.
Summer is dead. Languorous days of living in my head and thinking about the underlying structures of words, of who I am, and interaction narrative have given way to the pressing concern of what-am-I-saying? and what-am-I-doing? and I-was-supposed-to-be-where?
It's evident in the nature of my regular reads. All of us professorial folk are posting more about the other side - the things we teach, rather than the things we entertain and fancy, the things that we would think about had we time.
But there is no time. And perhaps there's a wee bit of an awareness that people (students) read what we write here, and that too filters our content.
