Chai

George is offering Carrots and Turnips. Here's what I'm bringing to the table. Please post a recipe for a virtual shared feast and track back to George - since he's the host. (Thanks George!)

The following is my recipe for chai. Since it's all a feel kind of thing, the measurements are blind guesses. (Will revise the recipe in a day or two when I make the tea and actually take the time to measure the quantities I throw in)

Enough water to make a pot of tea (8 cups)
A generous handfull of cardomom seeds (a quarter cupish)
A few black peppercorns. (1/4 teaspoon)
And a pinch of any of the following if you have it just because it's all good: cinnamon stick, clove, orange rind, five spice, allspice, ginger
Simmer the above while you're doing other things.
Come back to it when the smell permeates the house and you remember, oh yeah, you were making tea.

The concoction will have reduced itself greatly - by about half of its watery origins to an intense cardomom brew. Turn off the flame.

Toss in 4 heaping teaspoons of black tea. (4 bags).

Scald an equal amount of whole milk. (You could go with 2% or less fat - but remember that butter is your friend and sometimes fat is just good).

Strain the tea, add the milk and honey or brown sugar to taste.

See? I mean, really now, WHO reads anything in the old comments sections of blogs?

And, on a completely unrelated note, you undoubtedly remember the Spanish Harlem story. (After all, you commented on it) An edited version was just published in a local (raleigh) area magazine. The online version can be found at: http://www.urbanhiker.net (December issue) It's on the left-hand column, third down, underneath the cover picture.
