decompressing

Mother, sister, daughter - oh, and professor, wife, friend.

It was a little bit like Mystique in X-Men, transforming from one being into another throughout the break. Exhausting...good, but dang, I'm beat.

There are all these roles co-existing in one body. And they're fluid. Varying powers of influence, humor and relevance. Won't matter that I'm 41 now, or when I am 60...each relationship brings out certain aspects of me. Like Elaine makes me silly - in a good way.

Got back in town last night at 'round midnight. No real decompression from Atlanta to D.C. to Rochester. The snow is flying in 20 different directions outside my window, so I'm here in my office taking a moment to adjust and return to my self - whomever that may be when no one else is around. Turn the extroversion off for a bit. Slaking the professor/broadcaster and adopting the mom persona for the trip to daycare and picking up baby.

What a fun picture.

Sounds like a great time - and lots to be thankful for...
