Noam Chomsky now has a weblog.
Posted by weez at April 26, 2004 09:10 AM | TrackBackI'm, umm, amused(?) by the title Turning the Tide, and the way it says the blog "[includes] exclusive, original observations drawn from personal correspondence, ZNet Sustainer Forums posts, and direct blog entries." Maybe it's just me... and my suspicious nature... I googled the Chomsky blog and I found this possible interpretation at semantic compositions (semanticcompositions.typepad.com/index/2004/03/noam_chomskys_b.html): "the phrase "Noam Chomsky's blog" refers to an entity much like "Pegasus" and "the present King of France"." Semantic Composition reads the blog as "a clipping service run by a third party (apparently Z Magazine) with Chomsky's endorsement." Someone else (www.disinfo.com/site/displayarticle2582.html) says this blog is "an intellectual salon" - but naturally you can't post comments to this star intellectual's blog. Apparently the commenting had to be turned off after 24 hrs. I seem to have lost the link to where I read that. So is it advertising for Chomsky or does he want to explore a realm of discourse that has hitherto been largely left outside the sphere of academic investigations? Or am I way too cynical about star academics?
