A day to feel incompetent and inept. That I am behind and haven't done right by my students. That I will rightfully be flogged in my course evaluations (at least in one course) because I didn't stop them from damaging themselves...but also because I keep messing up the schedule in my head.
Icky icky icky icky.
Write it down.
Acknowledge the feeling and the reality that this is not a stellar moment.
Stash it to remind myself that this happens on occassion, promise to do better tomorrow, and walk away so it doesn't change from momentary weakness to world view.
The end is nigh.
(sigh)
*UPDATE - They don't hate me. They still prefer untidy democratic process to having been dictated to. And it turns out they aren't damaged...or at least not too much. (Ah, mother guilt in the strangest places).

Posted by: ver at April 29, 2004 06:29 PMYou know, you're absolutely right. (Not that I have any first-hand knowledge of that either).

Posted by: Francois Lachance at April 29, 2004 06:32 PMDo you remember the season on the Brady Bunch where Mike and Greg had straight hair and then went from flat to fluffy (sorta like a poodle)?
An incident somewhat like that - except chemically induce and longer lasting.

Posted by: ver at April 29, 2004 10:05 PMIt's sad when bad hair happens to good people.
Posted by: weez at April 29, 2004 10:07 PMDid you honestly think they would "hate" you. Such a strong word to begin with!
Students sense good people who are trying to do their best with what they've got. You're good people Weez, not just out to get your students.
Posted by: Amy at April 30, 2004 10:56 AMThanks, Amy.
Still, being good doesn't always make up for being a ditz.
