In a related note...(courtesy of mamageek)

I am 1% more evil than you.
bow down before me.
Eek..I am 64% evil. Wow. Can't decide whether to revel or go to church.
Posted by: cath at May 6, 2004 10:57 PMI, too, am 1% more evil than you. But from the way those questions were worded, there's never any way to become unevil, it's so... permanent. What I have learned is that we may be foolish in our youth doing evil deeds out of exploration and discovery; yet are more discerning as adults, choosing good over evil to enrich our lives and bring us closer to our spiritual being. Can I argue my grade? =P
Posted by: jay at May 6, 2004 11:40 PMor...maybe in your youth you were a sweet innocent, and as an adult you've become tricky by PRETENDING you've become a discerning adult.
we are well met, my equally evil friend.
Posted by: nain at May 7, 2004 05:59 AMThe real question is on what questions did the point difference happen.
You may not argue your grade.
And, FYI, I will admit to answering yes about murder.
Cath, if you're reaaally evil you'll revel in your evilness AT church. I double dog dare ya.
Posted by: weez at May 7, 2004 06:34 AMweez, we may have to regrade your evilness with dares like that.
you are more evil than the evildoer.
you are the evil instigator.
Wouldn't the really really evil folk skip the questionnaire entirely so that they could devoted themselves to doing evil? And how does that question with "No!" and "No" as possible answers to choose from score?
I think Jay has a point: once judge evil, all a character's actions are suspect: doing good is framed as setting up the victim...
And then there is Hannah Ardent on the banality of evil...
The questionnaire, silly game as it may be, is culturally revealling. Evil is figured as transgression of three sorts: (1) against the law (2) against the bonds of family and frienship (3) the rights of children. The questionnaire doesn't distinguish between protection of children from harm and encouragement of exploration in secure manner. It implies that the encouragement of exploration is evil if the encourager profits from the encouragement. Interesting how many of the questions deal with buying and selling and cheating. And in a sense the questionnaire itself cheats. Well, it invokes the nature of the acts as an index of evilness and not the magnitude of the effect or the frequency of repetition. Some of that is conditioned by the coding -- easier to tally a yes/no score on a form with radio buttons than have the a scale of say 1 to 5 for each question. Well not perhaps easier but certainly does influence the shape of the questionnaire.
Posted by: Francois Lachance at May 7, 2004 06:54 AMGive it up, Francois. How evil are you?
Posted by: weez at May 7, 2004 07:16 AMI'm bordrline.
Posted by: leecie at May 7, 2004 10:36 AMmy number was only 38%. I always knew I was the good girl in the family.
Posted by: leece at May 7, 2004 12:01 PMYou may be surprised to know that I scored only 40%, so am living on the borderline with leece. :)
Posted by: Liz at May 7, 2004 04:56 PMIt's the quiet ones ya got to worry about.
Posted by: weez at May 7, 2004 05:37 PMThe last time I went in a church, it was struck by lightning. I kid you not. I shall focus on becoming MORE evil to make up for the stress of having to go IN a church to repent the initial evilness. Nah. Never mind. I'll just be more evil for the fun of it.
Posted by: cath at May 7, 2004 07:08 PMIt turns out that I'm 65% evil.
But I can't be that bad.
This year, I actually gave up denouncing religion for lent.
Netti is 61%
