Take away notions from Dean Kaman’s convocation address

Graduation really isn’t about you…it is for your parents and grandparents to dress you up in silly hats.

This is their right, as it is likely the last time they will be able to do so, and so far (despite what you think) they have been doing a lot of giving, and you have been taking all this time.

From now on, it is your turn to start giving.

Many are mistaken in thinking that getting is the end game. Getting more stuff is boring. You give someone some thing, and you get some thing, and you both end up about equal. You want to get more stuff than the other guy is a race to the bottom.

You give an idea to someone, and they give you one, and you both have two ideas.

Only a small percentage of the world has the capability, the expertise, the technology, the education to make the ideas that can make the world better. This is your responsibility.

Giving is the end game.

If they post his speech online, I’ll link to it.
